When Star Trek: The Motion Picture was announced at a big studio press conference, most Americans hadn't heard of Persis Khambatta (seen here for the first time with her future co-star, Bill Shatner). The former Miss India would eventually have her head shaved for the part of "Ilia." After the movie was released and her beautiful hair grew back, she had a few small parts in films, but eventually returned to her native India.
