| During my many years with Gene and with "Star Trek," I was fortunate to have received many unusual items of memorabilia. A number of these were given to me as a courtesy for the service I rendered the studio in helping to scrutinize the numerous items being approved for sale by the Merchandising and Licensing department of Paramount Pictures. Whenever a new item would become available, the licensees would send a sample to Gene, to Richard Arnold (our resident "Trek expert") and to myself.
Additionally, each year when the show's new season began, there were gifts with the "Star Trek" logo created for the behind-the-scenes crew; these were never for sale to the public. And at Christmastime, Gene and other cast or crew members would have special items created to give to those of us fortunate enough to be working on "Star Trek: The Next Generation."
I have treasured all these items for many years, but I never used most of them because of the desire to maintain their pristine condition.
During the coming months, I will be offering these exciting, unique items for sale. They will be sold on a first-come, first-served basis, as they are, for the most part, limited to only one of each item. (And remember, if you join "Inside Trek," you will be entitled to a 10% discount off the selling price.)
Finally, I want to honor Gene by donating a portion of every sale to his favorite charity. Back in 1985, when the fans chipped in to pay the cost of his Star on Hollywood Blvd., I asked Gene what he wished to do with the excess that was collected, and he said, "I want to do something for sick children." We conducted a lengthy search, and Gene decided that the Make-A-Wish Foundation should receive the donation. Therefore, I will donate a percentage of every collectible that I sell to Make-A-Wish, in honor of Gene Roddenberry. Letter from Make-A-Wish |
